Registering for a wedding can be extremely intimidating, and overwhelming. You go to a big store, and they give you that tagging gun, and you go crazy. đ I’ve been there, and I can tell you that going in with a list or plan, is the way to go. Write down certain items you are needing/wanting. Doing it online can be a lot less intimidating, and you can take your time, ensuring you have exactly what you want on there. Your wedding is the time to take advantage of people actually wanting to buy you new items for your home.
My mind set was, “OK, I am going to register for things I need and want, but focus on things that I don’t want to buy for myself.” Sounds selfish, but I honestly don’t love dropping my own money on vacuum cleaners and adult things! HAHA
If you love hosting or entertaining, this is the perfect time to register for those beautiful serving pieces that can be expensive. Try finding timeless pieces that you can use for years to come. Stay away from the trendy patterns and pieces that will most likely go out of style. Pieces like serving bowls, cutting boards, cheese boards, are perfect for hosting.
We received many items from one of my favorite lines, Vagabond House. They create timeless serving pieces in a variety of styles. We are a hunting family, and I love all of their rustic and stag items. The silver work is stunning, and the way they pair it with stoneware and wood, is so timeless. They offer a variety of themes, such as equestrian and other animals. I come from a small town that has a specialty gift store. They specialize in wedding registry, and Vagabond House is a line they carry, and can order from. So many independent gift shops carry this line, or can order certain items. Vagabond House has a store locator on their website, so you can easily find a retailer in your area to register with.
Glassware is also something that is super useful. When getting married, there is a chance that you will be combining mismatched glassware and plates with your spouse. There is no better time then to register for nice, new plates and glasses. I personally wanted glasses that I could use when people came over. Plastic or more casual cups can easily be purchased anytime, so I used this opportunity to register for “fancier” drinking glasses and wine glasses.
Registering at a store like Dillard’s is a great option because they offer a wide variety of home items. Glasses, plates, decor, kitchen tools. They have it all. One stop shop for your registry. They carry Waterford, and also the less expensive Waterford option, Marquis by Waterford. Obviously, Waterford is a higher price tag, and something I didn’t want to purchase myself. Our champagne flutes were a Waterford item we received, and I will treasure them forever. Our drinking glasses and decanters are Marquis by Waterford, and they are so gorgeous and inexpensive.
This is also a great time to start a new silverware or flatware collection. Getting rid of the mismatched pieces and starting a new collection is not as expensive as you think. If you pick a stainless flatware set, it is less expensive and still durable. Dillard’s and places like Bed Bath & Beyond have a wide variety of patterns and styles. I chose a formal classic style, but brass is super popular right now!
Who doesn’t love a new fluffy towel? This is the perfect time to throw out the old and bring in the new. Places like Pottery Barn offer a in house monogram service, so you can register for new towels with or without a monogram. I’m assuming that if you are a newly married couple, it is exciting to have personalized items or items that represent you as a couple. Pottery Barn also offers a variety of personalized bed & bath items, along with throw pillows and decor
When it comes to bigger ticket items, you might not receive them, but that’s OK. You will most likely receive gift cards or store credit you can put towards purchasing them. If you are having any sort of bridal showers or couples shower, there is a big chance there will be multiple people hosting the shower. This is when you might receive one of those more expensive items, because the hosts will all go in on the gift together. This might sound crazy, but one of the most used big ticket item we have used is our luggage. When we got married Colt and I had a bunch of old and mismatched suitcases, so we hoped for new matching luggage. We were so appreciative to receive a few matching pieces. Luggage can be so expensive, but we have used the heck out of it!
There is nothing that says “adulting” like a vacuum cleaner, but let me tell you, a good one definitely comes in handy! Registering for a good quality or more expensive vacuum might seem silly, but it makes a great gift for the hostess to chip in and buy for you. No one wants to drop their own $$$ on an expensive vacuum cleaner, so take advantage of the possible gift opportunity! đ
Have your eye on the latest Instant Pot? This is the perfect time to add to your wish list. Crock Pots and other kitchen gadgets are things you can use for years to come, and are great items to add. Smaller items such a toasters, electric can openers, and kitchen towels are budget friendly options to include, too.
Yes, I know I said this is the perfect time to ask for things you don’t want to buy yourself. BUT! If there is one tip I can offer you, is please consider your wedding guest’s budget. You can do this by creating a wide range registry. Yes, having high priced ticket items is all fine and dandy, but please be respectful, and also have budget friendly items, too. Guests want to bring a gift, but not all can afford, or WANT to drop over $100 on a gift. Being mindful of people’s budgets will be appreciated and go a long way. đ
