When Kenleigh turned 5, I knew I wanted to give her a special party. She wanted to dress up as Elsa from Frozen, so we decided to do a princess theme. The guests could wear their favorite princess dress. I didn’t mind, because a girly, pink and gold theme is my specialty. When doing a party with a lot of decorating, I prefer to have it at my home because it gives me more time to decorate. A lot of the decor ends up becoming a DYI, so having the extra time to set up and plan makes it more convenient. Plus, you can clean it all up at your own pace, instead removing and hauling the decorations from a venue.
This was a fun party to decorate for, and thank goodness for Amazon and Etsy, it made the planning process much easier! I have linked as many sources as I can. Click on thumbnails to shop the products. I hope you enjoy the photos, and hope it brings you some inspiration if you’re planning a princess royal ball.
As far as invitations go, I love all of the designs from Hunny Prints. They are on Etsy, and all of her designs are gorgeous for any occasion. This Cinderella theme was perfect. Her Etsy shop is very convenient because she offers other downloadable images within the same theme. Just tell her what kind of banner or image you need, and she will create you a custom listing. That is how she made the large banner above our fireplace. It coordinated with the Cinderella invitation theme. To print the custom images, I go to Office Depot.
You can find custom name banners on Etsy. I wanted to cover the border of the banner, so I bought flower bunches from Dollar Tree, and cut the flower off. With hot glue, I glued the flowers on the banner to hide the seam.
I randomly had the large vases I used for the big flower arrangements from past parties. I knew I wanted giant floral arrangements that made a statement. I needed a cheaper alternative to purchasing real flowers, so I decided to buy bunches of flowers from Hobby Lobby. Make sure you buy when they are 50% off, they rotate their sales every week. I knew I would eventually use them again for another party or baby shower, so it was worth the investment.
I used our dining table as the main food table. I removed all of the dining chairs to give the guests more room to walk around the table as they made their plates. I rented all the linens from a local party planner. This worked out great, because I was able to pick out gorgeous linens and was able to return them without worrying the ironing or dry cleaning. I also don’t have to worry about storing them when they aren’t being used.
One tip about fake flowers. It is OK to mix real and fake flowers together. It can be more cost effective, and can make the fake one look more real. This large arrangement was mainly fake, and I mixed in some real Baby’s Breath that I picked up at the grocery store.
This was the main party table. I covered a white folding table with a gold sequin linen, and it was the center for all of the sweet treats. The cake, donuts, and candy bar were featured here. The candy bar was a part of the party favor, so I wanted it on full display. The sweet treat printable is also from Etsy, and I have everything linked below, so you can shop.
To create more drama, I purchased a photo backdrop from Amazon. It was a pretty pink floral setting, which I loved. I used tiny thumbtacks to secure the banner. To cover the seam between the backdrop and the wall, I made a balloon arch and put it on the left hand side of the banner. Etsy is full of arch kits, which I used, and it made it so helpful.
I knew I wanted the cake and cookies to be a regal blush and gold theme. The cake was made by a sweet lady from my hometown, and she did an amazing job capturing the metallic gold princess theme. The custom cookies were perfection, and captured the theme perfectly. They were done by a lady in Midland, TX. Her handle on Instagram is @thebakingtexan.
I ordered a 12 ft balloon arch kit from Etsy that came with the balloon strip and all of the balloons. I also ordered more balloon strip and balloons on Amazon because I knew I wanted to incorporate more arches throughout the house. At that point, I was confident I would be able to create my own. I have a balloon arch tutorial on my Instagram party highlight, and you can also search for tutorials on YouTube. Creating a balloon arch can be time consuming, so DEFINITELY invest in an electric pump! It makes the process SO much quicker than a hand pump! I used a couple of small thumbtacks and a couple of small Command hooks to secure this one above this threshold.
These are laser cut wood frames from Michaels. They are plain raw wood. These hold an 11 x 14 photo. I use spray glue and lots of gold glitter to make them sparkle and shine. I then print out a large photo or sign, and use spray glue to attach it. I wasn’t able to find it online, but you can find them in store without a photo cut out. Making it easier to glue a sign or photo directly on the wood. They are lightweight, so they can easily attach to glass with a Command hook. They add a sparkly and pretty detail to any party.
A friend of mine knew a girl who had a Belle dress, so lucky, right??? She dressed up as Belle and came to the party. Kenleigh was in complete shock that a real life princess came to her party. We kept it a surprise from her, so you can imagine the look on her face when she opened the door. 🙂 To keep the guests entertained, we also had a face painter and a Frozen themed bounce house.
We kept the outside very simple because we have a lot of unpredictable wind! I made princess punch, and put out some gold plastic cups. Inside, I had carafes filled with juice and other beverages for the adults. These printable tags from Etsy were so cute and helped label the juice. To add an extra detail, I printed off some water bottle labels that I got on Etsy (linked below.)
For party favors, I got plain white gift sacks from Hobby Lobby. I printed off some gift tags from Etsy and glued them on. You can also get string or raffia to tie the tag on. I also printed off custom candy bar labels from BlueBunny Printables and taped them around Hershey bars. I loved all of the floral and gold printable items they offer in their Etsy shop. SO cute! Each girl also got their own plastic crown and rings with their favor.
Due to COVID-19, Kenleigh was unable to have a 6th birthday party, so this was her party from last year. We are reliving the magic and pretty details of her 5th birthday. Hope you enjoyed the photos and found some inspiration!
XOXO,
Lyndsey
