When I was a teenager, I was the most self conscious about my smile. I had braces for years as a child, only to get them back on for 2 years in high school. I spent a total of 6 years of my life in braces. Because I had braces for so long, I had developed some discoloration on my two front teeth. At the time, the dentist gave me a quick fix, and put bonding over them to cover the discoloration. It was a great fix for a while, but the bonding does stain and started to turn yellow over time. The obvious next step for me was porcelain veneers. I was in high school during this time, and didn’t have the thousands of dollars they were going to cost. Since I was SO self conscious about my teeth, I knew I would eventually get them and find a way to pay for them. I started having a few consultations, and visiting with different cosmetic Dentists. I wanted to make sure I had an idea of what it would cost, and get different opinions on what route I should take. My biggest fear was getting veneers that were too large and looking like a horse! LOL 🙂 I definitely wanted to look natural and it not be super obvious that my teeth were fake.
When I moved to San Antonio for college, I saw Dr Camacho’s TV commercial. I visited his office, and knew Cosmetic Dentistry of San Antonio was the office for me. They had a wonderful staff, and gorgeous office with state of the art equipment. Dr Camacho told me that I was a great candidate for the “no prep veneer.” You may have heard of Lumineers, which are a brand name. They are basically a thin veneer that is placed on top of your tooth, and secured with strong adhesive. They are considered “non prep” because your teeth do not have to be grind down like they have to be with traditional veneers. I was thrilled when I found out I could go the no prep route because the grinding of my teeth freaked me out!
At this time, I was in college, and Colt and I were engaged. I knew this would be the perfect time to take the plunge and get my cosmetic dental work done. Between engagement and wedding photos, I knew I would regret it if I didn’t. The office manager told me about a company called Care Credit, which is like a credit card for medical purposes. Many Doctors, medical spas, and Veterinarians are Care Credit providers. At the time, they were offering a great payment plan option. With all of our wedding expenses, this was PERFECT for me because it allowed me to make monthly payments instead of paying it all up front.
Once I had the financing secured, I was ready to get started. Generally speaking, it only takes about 3 visits from start to finish to get your non prep veneers. After getting scans and measurements, they are sent to the lab for fabrication. Temporaries might be placed if necessary. By the 3rd visit, my veneers were in, and ready to be put on. Since I went the non prep route, I had zero pain. A super strong adhesive is applied to your natural teeth, and that’s what secures the veneer. In one visit, I walked about with a completely new and transformed smile. I could NOT have asked for a better experience.
It has been almost 7 years since I had my veneers put on, and it is by far the best thing I have ever done for myself. It made me feel so much better about my smile, and my teeth are no longer my biggest insecurity. We all have that one thing that bothers us the most, and we all deserve to have it fixed if we can.
