Do you ever see something in a store and think “oh, I don’t want to spend that, I’ll make it myself.” I am the queen of not wanting to pay asking price for things I can make myself. The worst part about it is that, 99% of the time, I end up spending more. That is the case with all of my crafts.
This wreath was no exception. I went overboard and just kept adding to it until I ran out of space. Whoever said “less is more” clearly never met me. After this wreath was in a photo I posted online, I got many questions about where to purchase it. Since I made it myself, I had no resource to share. Since all of the floral and supplies were purchased at Hobby Lobby, I thought I would share how I quickly assembled this wreath.
Hobby Lobby is my favorite and most cost effective place to purchase floral and supplies to make a seasonal wreath. All of the seasonal floral and décor is always 40% off, so that is very helpful. I always start a wreath with this twisted grapevine wreath. They come in all sizes, and you can find them in the Floral Department, usually hanging on the wall.
Now it’s time to find your wreath filler. I always choose to use floral picks with multiple textures and layers. It is quickest and most cost effective to use these because they are fuller than individual stems. They take up more space on the wreath, so you won’t have as many decorations to purchase. These floral picks can be found on shelves in the seasonal area, not in the floral area. Our local store also had a great display of them in baskets in the front of the store. For Fall, I like to choose the ones with different leaf lengths, berries and feathers to add interest. I also found some great deer horn picks to add great texture.
I am not a professional designer, wreath maker, whatever you want to call it. I will never claim to be one, either. I am simply sharing what works for me.
Assembly can be as easy, or as difficult as you want to make it. I prefer to use very little glue because I want to be able to make changes or move picks around. If you are wanting more security, definitely add a bit of hot glue to help the floral stick to the vine wreath. Since the grapevine is woven pretty tightly, it is able to hold the floral picks pretty well.
I literally just start sticking them around the wreath, arranging until it is all covered up. The floral pick stems are made of wire, so they can be molded to help hold it in place. Basically, keep sticking and moving the floral around until you are happy with the overall look. The beauty of a wreath is that there is no perfect or right way to do it. Its your wreath, so have fun with it, and do it up as big or little as you want!
If something you are wanting to use is not on sale, don’t forget to pull up the 40% off coupon on Hobby Lobby’s website! It can be used once a day. You can pull it up on your smart phone, and the cashier will scan it.
